Girths and Cinches

The girth or cinch keeps the saddle in place — and should do so without pinching the horse’s elbows or restricting the chest. Barefoot’s range includes anatomical English girths, Western cinches, Stretch & Breathe models, sheepskin-lined options, plus adapters and tie straps. An anatomical English girth follows the chest contour and eases pressure behind the elbows — useful for sensitive horses and heavy sweaters. Stretch & Breathe lets the ribcage expand; the same idea applies to the Western off-billet. Sheepskin lining softens contact; classic Western cinches and tie straps suit Arizona and other Western models.

Western-to-English adapters let one girth style work across different saddles if your yard mixes systems. Small leather straps are handy as fine attachments and spares. Length depends on girth circumference and which saddle you ride — the wrong length is a common reason a saddle “walks”.

Switching to treeless? Check that the girth hangs straight and does not pull the saddle forward or back.
